Faust, Queyras, Schiff, The Constellation & Gardiner

Three works allow a journey through different moments of Beethoven's trajectory in the year of the bicentenary of his death. The Coral Fantasy, one of the composer's most singular creations, brings together piano, soloists, choir and orchestra and already contains an idea that would later reach a universal dimension in the Ninth Symphony: making the voices and the orchestra converge in a great final chorus. The Mass in C Major reveals the Beethoven of sacred music, in a work often considered the "younger sister" of the monumental Solemn Mass. The Triple Concerto shows yet another facet of the composer and brings together three exceptional soloists: the violinist Isabelle Faust, the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and the pianist András Schiff. Beethoven transforms the concert form here into a three-way dialogue between the soloists and the orchestra, in a majestic work that finds in this trio of experts first-class interpreters. An exceptional programme is completed by John Eliot Gardiner, one of the most renowned conductors in the interpretation of the classical and romantic repertoire and with a long and successful relationship with the Palau de la Música Catalana. Leading The Constellation Choir & Orchestra, his recently formed ensembles, Gardiner thus proposes a Beethoven viewed from three perspectives: the concerto, the symphonic-choral and the religious, in a programme especially significant within the composer's commemoration.
