El pessebre

El Pessebre is Pau Casals' most beloved and emblematic work and a great hymn to peace. Based on the poem by Joan Alavedra, the oratorio recreates the Christmas story through the characters of the nativity scene and transforms it into a universal message of fraternity. For the 150th anniversary of Casals' birth, and in a season that takes peace as its guiding thread, this essential work of his legacy could not be missing from the Palau de la Música Catalana. Casals imbues this Christmas narrative with music of great evocative power, linked to tradition and with echoes of carols and folk melodies. El Pessebre is presented in the orchestral version by Antoni Ros Marbà, more reduced than the original, with a wide cast of soloists, the Cor Madrigal and the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, under the direction of Edmon Colomer, master of the Catalan heritage repertoire. One of Casals' great works in a time, the Christmas period, especially propitious for reconnecting with his message.
