European choral music has its deepest roots in medieval and Renaissance sacred polyphony, when the possibilities of the human voice were explored to inhabit sacred space and connect earth and heaven, even beyond the vaults of great cathedrals. The music of Palestrina, Victoria, Guerrero, or so many others creates an image of order, peace, and universal harmony while reminding us of the fragility and smallness of the isolated individual. This tradition was revived by Romantic musicians who found, in dialogue with eternity, an opportunity to explore intense emotions through luminous harmonies like those of Mendelssohn or melancholic sonorities like Brahms, seeking a more human and passionate relationship with the divine, a sonic effect that allows us to transcend here and now to feel part of something greater. This concert places side by side pieces that, despite being separated by five hundred years, demonstrate that the choir is the ideal instrument to remind us of the need for beauty and allows us to step out of our small world for a while and open ourselves to places that cannot be measured.
