—Pasión según san Mateo de Bach.
Three hundred years after the premiere of the Passion according to Saint Matthew, the Palau de la Música Catalana celebrates the anniversary with three very different perspectives on the masterpiece by Bach: Simon Rattle's reading, the most unpredictable, Teodor Currentzis's, and this historicist approach by Václav Luks. Specialist in this repertoire and representative of a new generation of conductors inheriting the interpretative renewal initiated by figures such as Harnoncourt, Luks arrives with his Collegium 1704 to propose a reading attentive to the language, sonority, and interpretative criteria of Bach's time. Premiered in Leipzig in 1727, the Passion according to Saint Matthew thus celebrates three centuries of an extraordinary history. After falling into oblivion, the recovery promoted by Felix Mendelssohn in the 19th century was decisive to return it to the stages and contribute to the rediscovery of Bach's music. With Luks and Collegium 1704, the circle closes by looking at the score again from the perspective of historically informed performance.
