This programme contrasts two ways of understanding late romanticism: the luminous elegance and melodic refinement of Carl Reinecke's Concerto for Flute and the organic force and poetic density of Jean Sibelius's Symphony No. 2, one of the great symphonic landmarks of the turn of the century. Between intimate virtuosity and grand orchestral discourse, the concert invites us to listen as the orchestra transforms: first into a transparent veil that envelops the flute's voice, and then into a powerful organism capable of raising a sound narrative of great breath.
