International Puppet Day: from tradition to contemporaneity. With the mediation of Toni Rumbau. Glove puppet theatre is one of the most rooted puppet traditions in Europe, but it continues to demonstrate a great capacity for reinventing itself. This international day, mediated by writer and puppeteer Toni Rumbau, proposes a tour through different ways of understanding this stage language: from the popular tradition of the Italian company I Burattini di Mattia to the contemporary proposal of the French Cia-L'Alinéa. An opportunity to discover the relevance, richness and diversity of an art that continues to evolve without losing its roots. TRE SERVI ALLA PROVA — I Burattini di Mattia (Italy) At Tre servi alla prova (Three servants put to the test), Dottor Balanzone, a prestigious lawyer, organises a party at his villa and decides to scare his three servants with costumes and small pranks. Amidst tricks and comic situations, he will discover which of the three —Fagiolino, Sganapino or Sandrone— is the most cunning and brave, in a story that culminates with a round of whippings. I Burattini di Mattia, a company founded by Mattia Zecchi, was born out of a passion for glove puppets that has accompanied him since childhood. With only eight years old he already presented his first public show, and at fourteen founded his own company. Trained within the Bologna tradition alongside masters such as Romano Danielli, Marco Iaboli and William Melloni, Zecchi keeps this heritage alive by reinterpreting classic texts without losing the essence of glove puppet theatre. In 2010 the company received the Benedetto Ravasio Award, in recognition of its work in preserving this tradition. PETITES HISTOIRES SANS PAROLES — Cia. L'Alinéa (France) Petites histoires sans paroles (Little wordless stories) is a show made up of three short pieces of 15 minutes where the puppets dialogue with jazz music and improvisation. With puppeteer Brice Coupey and double bassist Jean-Luc Ponthieux, each performance transforms into a unique experience, marked by the present, listening and complicity with the audience. The three pieces that make up the show are: Œdipe (Oedipus): A puppet manages to get the puppeteer out of his hiding place to try to conquer his freedom. Who is the master of the game: the puppeteer or the puppet? Petit Sisyphe (Little Sisyphus): A puppet discovers the hand that gives it life and confronts it. A delicate allegory about the relationship with the other, explored through manipulation with the bare hand. Le sac (The sack): Three glove puppets meet with an insatiable bag in a playful and surprising reinterpretation of the fierce wolf myth, inspired by the Lionès puppet tradition.
