Az-zahr was a popular dice game in al-Andalus and other Islamic regions in the Middle Ages. Its name, which means flower in Arabic, seems to refer to the orange blossom drawn on one of the dice faces. The game consisted of throwing the dice and seeing if the face marked with az-zahr appeared. Thus, this would be the etymological origin of the word atzar. Starting from a concept as complex as atzar, this exhibition proposes to explore everything we attribute to chance, destiny, or uncertainty, everything that seems to be the fruit of contingency. The exhibition "I, DE SOBTE, L'ATZAR. Incerteses, destins i casualitats en la Col·lecció MACBA" proposes a view on the concept of atzar from different perspectives, places, or interpretations. It is approached from the irruption of an abrupt, uncontrollable, unexpected fact. As a fact that escapes us and is alien to us.
