AIDA

Premiered in 1871 in Cairo, the plot revolves around a love triangle: the powerful Amneris, daughter of the pharaoh, and Aida, an Ethiopian slave who is actually the daughter of the enemy king, Amonasro, as they vie for the love of Radamès, the Egyptian general enamored with Aida. Amidst the conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia, Aida struggles between loyalty to her people and her feelings, while Radamès finds himself trapped between patriotic duty and love. His inner struggle leads him to an involuntary betrayal that condemns him to death, and Aida decides to share his fate in a tragic and moving ending.
