—Les Arts Florissants & Agnew.
Riccardo Primo introduces us to an unusual Handel on stage, in an opera that combines vocal virtuosity and dramatic intensity. The main protagonist is Hugh Cutting, one of the most outstanding emerging countertenors of the moment, who returns to the Palau de la Música Catalana after his participation in the Passion according to Saint Matthew with Arcangelo. A spectacular voice and special charisma to assume the role of Riccardo, inspired by the figure of Richard the Lionheart. Around him, Handel weaves a plot of love, deceits and power struggles that begins with the shipwreck in Cyprus of Costanza, his fiancée. Alongside Cutting, a first-class cast with Deborah Cachet, Mélissa Petit, Alex Rosen and Andreas Wolf, under the direction of Paul Agnew. Completing the bill is Les Arts Florissants, a reference formation in historicist performance, especially linked to the baroque repertoire.
