Joan Tomàs i Parés was a very active musician, tirelessly dedicated to the country's culture. His contribution to Catalan cultural heritage is irreplaceable, both in quantity and quality of his work, through study, research, and transmission in classes, writings, conferences, and concerts. He carried out an important task of research and collection of popular songs, dances, and instrumental music. He worked to preserve and promote popular music as part of Catalan cultural heritage. He was also one of the great promoters of the Catalan choral movement and of musical and rhythmic pedagogical renewal. All these ideas, immersed in his personality, are also evident in his compositions. All those who knew him expressed in one way or another that Joan Tomàs was a good person, affable, sweet, humble, and simple. He gave his love through music and his mastery, dedicated to others and to the ideals of singing well and educating the taste for good music. With his way of doing things, besides music, he instilled his kindness and taught to love. He firmly believed that music education should reach everyone. Joan Tomàs did not leave a heart behind. In choirs he taught music, and in schools he created choruses. In his hands the choruses grew and many became orfeons. Musician of every heart, Joan Tomàs i Parés, 1896-1967, is therefore the name of the exhibition commemorating the 125th anniversary of master Tomàs's birth.
