Rafael Álvarez, better known as El Brujo, takes the stage at the Teatro Apolo in Barcelona to bring to life the most famous pícaro in literature, El Lazarillo de Tormes, with masterful vocal and interpretative skill.rnrnLet me tell you something: I will never abandon the Lazarillo.rnrnEvery time I perform it, I especially enjoy it. I have never failed to connect with the audience in a special way. The satisfaction of joy cannot be faked, and I truly enjoy this play.rnrnThe Lazarillo and I have received much more than both of us have given. The emotional and affective compensation is very great, and the relief and tranquility are even greater. This fictional creature was born with a very special destiny, and that is why it remains here.rnrnAs from the very first day, I feel a huge privilege in being able to give my voice and my body to this jewel of literature. This entity from the imaginary world could change the real world because it turns hunger and need into art, recycling it into wisdom. Faced with pain, we have two paths: complaint or art. And with irony, part of the state of the fool, walks through learning and reaches wisdom. The Lazarillo deals with marginalization, hunger, and the harsh experience of childhood. The parallels between the world of the child who accompanies the blind man and the situation of so many children in the third world who die of starvation are obvious. The story repeats itself over and over again.rnrnAs almost always, this situation is the consequence of a world of imbalances in which goods are out of balance. And it is born from a lack of awareness of the value of life.rnrnThe play addresses a universal problem: today, current desire also revolves around ambition and power. It is like a metaphor that everyone understands, it is a world, a well of life and meanings that guide you. It is born in a time of huge imbalances between the official world of the Court and the real one, of hunger. And before, just as now, one cannot be happy in a wretched world, because mistreated lives have to do with yours. At least I cannot.rnrnFor all this, because Fernán Gómez knew how to capture the soul of this pícaro, because I am passionate about reciting his adventures in theatres; here is this wonderful tale, primordial for me, just as it is to serve the public's need at every moment. A need that can be for entertainment, for enlightenment, for relaxation, for a silence or for a scream. To be known.
