Repertori Bedrich Smetana: The Moldau Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No.

Publicitat

Repertori Bedrich Smetana: The Moldava Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 11 Sergei Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 3, Op. 44 Artists David Khrikuli, piano Cristian Măcelaru, conducting Barcelona Symphony and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) Programme The symphonic poem The Moldava by Bedrich Smetana opens the concert with a powerful evocation of the landscape and the national identity of the Czech composer. Integrated into the Má vlast cycle, the score follows the course of the river from its birth to its triumphant arrival in Prague, stopping at episodes of nocturnal character and peasant dances. Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 exhibits, with a lyrical writing of contrasting eloquence, the most personal voice of the Polish composer. In his second contribution to the concerto genre—despite the numbering that has become popular—the piano of the young David Khrikuli sings, sighs, and expands, while the orchestra accompanies with elegance and outlines majestic settings that facilitate its flight. The second part of the concert presents Symphony No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninov. Manifestly post-Romantic, composed during his North American exile, it reveals a language marked by nostalgia: the shadow of the past will coexist, however, with the construction of a luminous present, under the direction of Cristian Macelaru.
